LINK _ 2020 ~ 2021

Link, the most recent work, looks at the affection between people. The series proposes a visual essay about the depth of affective ties in times of liquid modernity. Conceptually based on two propositions: “Love” and “Passion”, and using as a signifier the boat and its shadow as a compositional conductor, the series deals with the alignment of feelings and emotions caused by the human encounters. Investigating geometric correspondences in particularities of these ties, sometimes raising questions of a philosophical or subjective nature, sometimes touching on themes such as diversity and individual freedoms in an increasingly virtual and increasingly “liquid” social environment as defined by Bauman. Vertices that touch only on a mathematical limit and overlapping shadows are analogies to common aspects of the affection relationships such as idiosyncrasies, choices, preferences and moral principles. Still in development, this series is an offshoot of the Fluidity Threshold.

Love

acrylic on canvas

This work is a reflection on the concept of “love” as a choice and as a pure relationship between individuals. The contact between the bow of the boats tends to an infinite mathematical limit, an abstraction. The overlapping of shadows has in common aspects of everyday life, personal preferences, moral principles and shared goals. The choice of colors in this work is a provocation to absolute and exclusive concepts of gender and family.

Pasion

Passion in the psychological sense or as a philosophical concept carries with it the dubious potential for construction and destruction. Passion in Aristotelian philosophy is a powerful tool of rhetoric, conduction and engagement of the interlocutor. The explosion resulting from the collision of passions can be both a moment of beauty and rapture, as well as a rupture where ideas or individuals enter a violent process of deconstruction, regrouping and self-organization of fragments into something different, new, plural or singular.

Intimacy, Contraries

2021
acrylic on canvas
40x40cm

Intimacy between individuals is something that occurs in many degrees of depth regardless of the duration and intensity of the contact. Contraries is part of a set of reflections on choices and exchanges that happen when individuals choose, even in the opposite trajectories to play, to allow being touched and modified when making concessions.
